Reading Non-Fiction
Non-fiction is very important for many reasons. Therefore, we have been learning about it in Mrs. Mahaffey's LEAD class. Below are some important topics learned in class.
Non-fiction is a great source of information pertaining to a particular subject. Some examples could be biographies, newspapers, magazines, even textbooks! Most importantly, non-fiction is everywhere.
With so many books, non-fiction has many different reasons for reading it.
1.) It may help enrich, or inform your knowledge.
2.) Authors could also try to talk you into--or persuade-- you to do something.
3.) Everyone has an opinion on things, so maybe you could run into a book trying to explain their opinion or why a certain event happened.

But, not all books are non-fiction. The characteristics of non-fiction describe a non-fiction text.
The four characteristics of non-fiction are:
1.) It looks different from fiction because the wording, text, and information is different.
2.) The vocab is unfamiliar and most likely would not be spoken the same way in a daily conversation.
3.) Graphic aids are usually included. Diagrams, models, etc. may be in the text.
4.) Lastly, it is a great deal of information to be understood and remembered.
